Florida Kills, Kentucky Survives, Vandy Dies

Vernon Macklin, Chandler Parsons, Alex Tyus celebrate the Gators victory over UC Santa Barbara Thursday in Tampa, FL

The SEC went 2-1 in the opening day of the 2011 Tournament.  2 Florida dominated from the start opening up with a 10-1 lead and never looked back.  Senior Chanlder Parsons nearly earned a triple double as the Gators blew out 15 UC Santa Barbara 79-51 Thursday evening at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, FL.  Erving Walker led all scores with 18 and Alex Tyus grabbed 7 rebounds.  The Gators moves on to play the winner between 10 Michigan State and 7 UCLA, which is currently airing right now on TBS, home of Conan O'Brien of course.

4 Kentucky just barely held over 13 Princeton as it came down to the wire.  Brandon Knight missed his first seven shots and even found himself on the bench in the final minute against Princeton, but the big bro made up for it when it counted.  Knight's last minute winning shot was the biggest contribution Kentucky (26-8) got from its trio of talented freshmen all day. Terrence Jones finished with 10 points, Doron Lamb added seven and Knight failed to reach double figures for the first time in 29 games.  Close call Wildcats, close call.

Vandy, Vandy, Vandy.  5 Vanderbilt dropped to 12 Richmond Thursday afternoon and earned yet another early exit from the Tournament.  That's all I need to say.

5 Hours In To The Tournament...

Gators Lose SEC Championship, Calipari Is Still A Cheater

Florida Gators Scottie Wilbekin (5) and Chandler Parsons (25) walk off the court after their game against the Kentucky Wildcats during the finals of the SEC Tournament on Sunday.

The Gators couldn't contain their frustration in the closing minutes of a 70-54 loss to Kentucky at the Georgia Dome. Florida lost its first SEC Tournament final game since 2004, when the Gators dropped a 79-63 outcome to the Wildcats.

"We definitely wanted to be on the other end," said Florida senior forward Chandler Parsons, who had nine points and 10 rebounds. "But we still have a couple of chances to do that."

No. 12 Florida (26-7) couldn't overcome an awful offensive performance. The Gators shot 38.6 percent from the field, had six more shots blocked and turned the ball over 14 times. Boynton led Florida with 10 points, but no other Florida player reached double-figures.  Pretty ugly game from start to finish.

Despite the loss, the Gators still earned a number two seed in the Southeast Region of the 2011 NCAA Basketball Tournament.  They face the 15th seed UC Santa Barbara on Thursday.  Kentucky might have won the Championship game, but the Gators still have the higher seed in the tourney.  The Wildfags enter as a 4 seed and will play UAB or Clemson.  So suck on that Calipari.

Bruce Pearl Is Gay

After throwing away a big lead in the first half last night, the Gators beat down Tennessee last night and completed the season sweep 3-0. Florida is set to play Vanderbilt soon at 3:30. Florida is 2-0 against Vandy this season.

As I'm blogging this, Alabama is getting wrecked by Kentucky 63-38. Ouch. Take that Saban. Kentucky will play tbe winner of Florida/Vandy tomorrow afternoon for the SEC title. Go Gators! And in other news I just posted this from my phone while eating fake fried rice, let's see StamosLovesSports do that.

Vols, 'Dogs, Rebels, 'Dores Advance to Day 2

The first day of the SEC tournament is in the books and hopefully day two will be much more competitive.  These first four games were basically just getting rid of the girl schools, now it's time for some man ball.  Here's a quick recap of the games from yesterday.

Tennessee 74, Arkansas 68
After creating a pretty big cushion of a lead in the first half, Tennessee almost flushed their championship hopes down the crappa as Arkansas mounted an impressive comeback.  But freshman Tobias Harris hit 20 points and Tennessee held on the beat Arkansas 74-68 on Thursday night in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference tournament.  Who does Tennessee move on to play you ask?  Only the number 12 ranked all mighty Florida Gators with SEC Coach and Player of the year, Billy D and Chandler P.  Tip off is 7:30, it's going to be a bloodbath.  The only thing more obnoxious than Phil Fulmer is Bruce Pearl, so let's go Gators.

Vanderbilt 62, LSU 50
In the generic sluggish, low scoring game of the day, Vanderbilt held on for an ugly win over LSU 62-50.  Top guard John Jenkins, who is averaging more than 19 points a game, missed the game after tweaking his left foot against Florida last weekend.  That didn't matter as Jeffery Taylor nailed 21 points while leading the black and gold Commodores to victory.  Vandy is set to face Mississippi St. in the late game tonight at 10pm.

Ole Miss 66, South Carolina 55
Chris Warren scored 20 points and Mississippi won a game of spurts, pulling away from the Cocks 66-55 Thursday in the opening round of the SEC tournament.  The final run was definitely the decisive one for the Rebels, who came into Atlanta knowing their only shot at the NCAA Tournament was to win four games in four days in this tournament. After South Carolina closed to 50-45 with 9½ minutes to go, Ole Miss put it away with an 11-1 run.  They advance to play Kentucky today at 3:30pm.

Georgia 69, Auburn 51
Trey Thompkins scored 22 points as the Bulldogs cruised past Auburn 69-51 in the opening game of the tournament.  This came just the day after he announced that he is "more healthy than I've ever been."  How cute.  Georgia has a chance to again bolster its NCAA tournament hopes when it faces Alabama, the Western Division's No. 1 seed, Friday at 1pm in the opening game of the SEC quarterfinals.  I guess there's no way both teams can lose, but we can still hope.

SEC Bball Tourney Starts Today

The SEC Tournament starts Thursday afternoon with a big game between Georgia and Auburn at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Bulldogs need this win to keep their hopes of an NCAA Tournament at-large berth alive. Not a packed house yet, but plenty of Georgia fans and students here who made the 60-mile trip from the Athens, Ga. campus. Wow, 60 miles must be real difficult for these kids.  Florida fans make it out everywhere.  Georgia beat Auburn in overtime in the first meeting between the two schools, so this is no gimme for the Dogs.  Getcha popcorn ready.

Hey dudes, this is the first post in what will be a comprehensive blog about all Southeastern Conference Sports.  Go Gators.
